One off special Hot Charleston with guest teacher Gabriela Novellino from Brazil! She started her swing dance journey right here in Leeds and is now an international star. It is so awesome to have to come back and teach for us. Don't miss it!
This Hot Charleston will be held at a different venue to usual:
Chapel Allerton Methodist Church Hall LS7 4NB
There will be two solo charleston + jazz classes Beginners and Improvers, followed by 2hrs of social dancing.
3:30pm-4:30pm Beginners
4:30pm-5:30pm Improvers
5:30-7:30pm Social dancing
BEGINNERS: no dance experience required, just having good fun charleston dancing. We'll learn the basic steps, focus on repetition and dancing it to the music.
IMPROVERS: Aimed at people who attend regular hot charleston workshops with Rob and are looking for more depth and variety in their dancing.
A little more about Gabs
Gabs started dancing at four years old and has never stopped. While spending a year abroad in Leeds, UK in 2012, she discovered the Jazz dances, fell hopelessly in love, and decided to dedicate her life to this passion. She is a dancer, teacher, choreographer, researcher, DJ and event organizer primarily in Brazil, and other Latin American communities. She specializes mainly in Lindy Hop, Authentic Jazz, 1920s’ Charleston, and Collegiate Shag.
In 2023, she became a Frankie Manning Foundation Scholar and also a part of the team that organized two editions of ILHC Latin America. She also works for iLindy, where she writes blog articles, weekly newsletter, and leads the production of new courses and projects.
Gabs is also a huge history geek and loves to dig deeper into the roots of Jazz music and dance. As a guest in the culture, she honors the opportunity to share the legacy and culture of Black American artists who created this art form.
